Belva “Granny” Lewey Jones – Obituary

Belva “Granny” Lewey Jones, age 85, Russellville, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Burns Nursing Home.

She was born Monday, November 30, 1931 in Franklin County. She was a member of James Chapel Missionary Baptist Church for more than 69 years and a charter member of the Dempsey Cemetery Board. She loved researching genealogy, keeping records and researching local cemeteries and obituaries.

The visitation will be 1:00 -4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Spry Memorial Chapel, with the funeral following at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel. Officiating will be Bro. Robert Winter and Bro. Kenneth Bond. Burial will be at Dempsey Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Billy C. Jones; parents, A.M. & Ludie (Bolton) Lewey; great-grandson, Triton Jones; sister, Ament Lewey Williams; father-in-law, J.C. Jones; and mother-in-law, Roena Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her two sons, Tommy C. Jones (Linda), Johnny C. Jones (Deb), one daughter, Tyanne McDonald (Jerry); five grandchildren, Tommy Paul Jones (Misty), Emily Jones, Stewart Blackburn (Brittany), Lakesha Holland (Radley), Johnine Rhodes (Bradley); eight great-grandchildren, Danika, Harlie, and Cheston Jones, Lily and Leah Blackburn, Brantley, Case, & Ella Holland, MaKagan Rhodes; sister-in-law, Virginia McCalmon (Gene); several nieces & nephews; special friend, George (Billy) Humphries; and lifelong friend, Geneva Townsend.

The pallbearers will be Brad Pounders, Bradley Rhodes, Jason Oliver, Brandon Oliver, Jeff Rickard, and Dallas Bragwell. The honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Bolton, Horace Lewey, Hal Bray, Rayburn Massey, Homer Petree, Buck Jones, Byron Mitchell, and Mark Swindle.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dempsey Cemetery Fund, c/o Christa Madden, 1595 Highway 21, Russellville, AL 35653.
