Ola Rhea Christian, 85, died Thursday, September 13, 2017, at Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born January 19, 1932, in Bruce, MS to Lawrence and Mattie Crocker. She graduated from Bruce High School in 1953. Rhea was a dedicated wife to her husband James, who died in 2003, and a loving mother to their son Scottie. Together they loved to travel and spend time visiting with family and friends. Rhea was a homemaker and enjoyed baking cakes. She devoted her life to making sure that her family, especially her son, was taken care of and that they attended church each time the doors were opened. She would always tell Scottie, “we need to be in church every time we can.” Aside from baking, Rhea loved her ladies group from church. Rhea and her son were members of the Joy Club and she was a member of the Ladies III Sunday School Class at Auburn Baptist Church. In her last years on earth, she and Scottie transitioned to Magnolia Manor where she made many friends. She will always be remembered by the smile on her face and even when things got tough, she would always say she was fine.
Services will be 1 PM Friday, September 15, 2017 at Auburn Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmy Henry officiating. Burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church starting at 11 AM. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
She is survived by her son, Scottie Joe Christian of Tupelo; one niece, Myra Rayburn of Memphis and a host of other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, James Edward Christian and several siblings.
Pallbearers will be J.R. Brock, Terry Miller, Lester Holder, Michael Dickerson, Charles Maxwell, Allen Brown, David Farris and Malcolm Farris. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Ladies III Sunday School Class and members of The Joy Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Auburn Baptist Church Ministry Village.
