James Wesley Sasser – Obituary

James Wesley Sasser, fondly known as Jim, Jimbo, Big Jim, Dad and Granddaddy Pooh Bear, age 90, departed his life under the sun on Wednesday, September 13th in Republic, MO. He was born in Goshen, AL on May 8, 1927 the son of Alex & Minnie Sasser, one of 12 children. On November 22, 1953 Jim was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann Whittle. They were married 46 years until Ann departed her earthly life on November 20, 1999. Jim grew up in many places in south Alabama and north Florida, and then after a few years in several branches of the military, he returned to finish college in Montgomery, AL and begin to preach full time; first in Union Springs, AL, then Chiefland, FL, followed by Joliet, IL, overseas in Nigeria, West Africa, and then Griffith, IN; and almost 3 years in Australia, but finally back to north Alabama and south Tennessee from 1972 until the end of his full time preaching days, he remained in Athens, AL and was an active member of the Jackson Drive church of Christ until June of 2017.

Jim leaves to cherish his memory his five children; son, Whit (Irma) Sasser; daughter, Jimona (David) Maravilla; daughter, Tami (Craig) Bean; daughter, Jori (Collin) Stringer; and son Quinn (Holly) Sasser; twenty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation is 1:00-3:00pm and funeral service at 3:00pm on September 16 at Limestone Funeral Chapel in Athens, AL.
