Theresa Katherine Scholz – Obituary

 Theresa Katherine Scholz , 91, of Huntsville, passed away on Sunday. Theresa was a long-time member of St. Mary of the Visitation Parish where she sang in the adult choir. She was involved with the Huntsville Community Chorus, Opera Lovers Incorporated, Meals on Wheels, and served as Treasurer for the Huntsville Music Study Club. She enjoyed traveling, going to the opera, attending plays, and visiting friends and family.

A native of Mobile, Alabama, she graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Accounting. She retired from the U.S. Army Strategic Defense Command after 36 years of federal service. During her career, she worked overseas in Kwajalein and Japan. She was an active member of the Foundation for International Cooperation and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.

Theresa is survived by her nieces and nephews: Victor T. Henken Jr. (Mimi), Theodore A. Henken (Natasha), Timothy B. Henken, Joann Crow, Theodore F. Henken, Jr. (Margaret), Jeanie Kennedy (Claude), Thomas S. Henken (Jennifer), Timothy P. Henken (Jia), Theresa Griffin (Sam), Martin Henken (Marie), Christopher A. Henken (Martha), Sister Beth Henken, Veronica H. Duncan, Victor J. Henken, Katherine Henken-Gerhardt (Wayne), and Ellen H. Martin (Walter), and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore A. Henken and Josephine Amelia L. Henken; and brothers, Theodore F. Henken, Sr. and Victor T. Henken, Sr.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 13, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home (2320 Bob Wallace Ave SW, Huntsville, AL.) with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Catholic Cemetery, Belforest, AL. Theresa’s funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church of the Visitation at 11:00 a.m. on September 14, with Father Bill Kelley presiding, and Father Mike Mac Mahon and Father Joe Lubrano as concelebrants.

The family declines flowers but prayers, condolences and memories are gladly accepted. With music being a lifelong passion, memorial contributions may be made to the Huntsville Music Study Club (Attn: Peggy East, 2811 9th Ave SE, Huntsville, AL, 35805) which sponsors scholarships for aspiring musicians.
