Obie William “Billy” Englett – Obituary

Obie William “Billy” Englett, age 76, passed away surrounded by his family at the home of his son, Julian, on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017. Visitation will be held today from 1- 3 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home in Florence. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. at Sandtown Cemetery, Philadelphia, Mississippi.

Billy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service having served as postmaster in Minter, Alabama. He was a long time member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon Tank Englett.

Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, JoAnn Dumas Englett; children, Rhynie Johnson, Dewayne (Leah) Englett, Amanda L. (Dave) Spillane, Julian A. (Jill) Englett, Marcus (Laura) Crews, and Beverly Ann Gresham; sister, Virginia E. Hamlin; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Billy’s famous last words were “I told you I was sick.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), 8719 Colesville Rd. Suite 100, Silver Springs, MD 20910 (vva.org). The family would like to express their appreciation to Green Oaks Inn and to Hospice of North Alabama for their loving care.
