Lois Searcy Hovater – Obituary

Lois Searcy Hovater, Tuscumbia, Ala., went to be with Jesus on Sept. 13, 2012. She was born May 15, 1926, in Russellville, Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; her daughter, Gaylene Mae; her father and mother, Riley and Theola Mae Searcy.

She is survived by her children, Daryl Hovater (Becky), Vanessa Beers (Dave), Keith Hovater (Lynn), Hollis Hovater (Lorie); seven grandchildren, Justin Hovater, Jacob Beers, Emily Hovater, Thomas Hovater, Matt Hovater, Lindsey Cole (Jeff) and Holley Hovater; her brother, Olen Searcy; many loved nieces and nephews; and her special granddaughter, Rhae Hollcamp.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Searcy, Fred Searcy and Harold Searcy; sisters, Eloise Poss and Pauline Searcy.

She was a member of First Baptist Church Colbert Heights where she loved her Sunday school class and may special friends. She was loved by all.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her special friends, her special caretakers, Angela McCuskey and Katie Nix, of Home InStead, Donna Sparks and Jill Allsbrooks. We also thank her nurse, April Daniels, of Hospice of Tennessee Valley.

Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Morrison’s Funeral, Tuscumbia, Ala. Funeral services will be Sunday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Colbert Heights with Seth Hood officiating. She will lie-in-state at the church from 1-2 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Justin Hovater, Thomas Hovater, Jacob Beers, Tommy Honey, Mike Vaughn and Jack Pounders. Honorary pallbearers are Matt Hovater, Wayland Dunn, Lawrence Kimbrough, Terrell Herron, Danny McCollum and Conley Wright.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church Colbert Heights Building Fund, the Gideon Society, St. Jude or your favorite charity .
