Roy Lane Grissom – Obituary

Roy Lane Grissom, age 84, Spruce Pine, passed away on Monday, September 04, 2017 at Russellville Hospital. Mr. Grissom retired after 38 years of working at Reynolds Metals. He loved music of all kinds, playing the piano, guitar, and the fiddle. He loved hunting and fishing in his early years, and in his later years, enjoyed growing giant watermelons. He was known as the watermelon man in Franklin County.

The visitation will be 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 07, 2017 at Spry Memorial Chapel, with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Officiating will Bro. Sammy Taylor and Bro. George Hutto. Burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Lane & Clara (King) Grissom; sisters, Dorothy Jackson, Ruth Stone; brothers, Howard Grissom, Spruell Grissom; and step-grandchild, Katie Burkett.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 58 years, Doris June Grissom; children, Michael Lane Grissom (wife, Tynette), Roger Neal Grissom, Kelly Grissom Champion (husband, Tony), Kristi Grissom Gerding (husband, Jason); grandchildren, Peyton Grissom (wife, Stephanie), Parker Grissom (wife, Katie), Christopher Grissom, Ryan Champion (fiancé, Briana Glass), Cole Gerding, Greyson Gerding; step-grandchild, Andrew Burkette; sisters, Paulette Todd, Genell Hayes; and a host of nieces & nephews.

The pallbearers will be Peyton Grissom, Parker Grissom, Christopher Grissom, Ryan Champion, Cole Gerding, Greyson Gerding, William Lane Stone, and Tim Jackson.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to our special caregiver, Christine Steele, Kindred Hospice, and the staff of the Russellville ICU for your care of our family.
