Nicholas Alexander
FLORENCE–On Wednesday, August 30 a former UNA athletic trainer was indicted on charges of 1st degree Sexual Abuse by the Lauderdale County Grand Jury. These charges were brough against Nicholas Alexander by a student according to authorities.
Alexander was arrested on Wednesday after turning himself in to authorities and was taken to the Lauderdale Detention Center and is being held on $25,000.00 bond.
Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly stated charge stems from allegations of inappropriate sexual contact. Connolly also said that conditions of Alexander’s bond is that he has no contact directly or indirectly with students.
After investigation UNA turned the matter over to the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s office.
According to the release from UNA, Alexander resigned July 13 before the university was able to terminate his employment.
UNA issued a statement Wednesday:
“The University of North Alabama is committed to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students. A professional and well-trained staff addresses claims of sexual misconduct. Students impacted by sexual misconduct are provided strong resources and excellent support. After receiving allegations of Nick Alexander’s misconduct in March, UNA immediately removed him from campus and banned further contact with students. UNA reached out to the student and investigated. The investigation concluded that Mr. Alexander violated UNA policy. He resigned before UNA was able to terminate his employment. The matter is now with the District Attorney, and the University is providing its fullest cooperation. ”
