Wilma Miller Slaten – Obituary

Wilma Miller Slaten, 83 of Arab, died Wednesday August 30, 2017 at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice in Albertville.
Mrs. Slaten was born January 3, 1934 in Blount County to Garland David Smith Sr. and Della Murphree Smith. She was a 1951 graduate of J.B. Pennington High School and worked on the Redstone Arsenal in Civil Service until her retirement. Her first husband Leo Deon Miller preceded her in death June 10, 1995. She married Billy Slaten in 1998. Mrs. Slaten enjoyed cooking, and took pride in her lawn and loved Alabama football.
Mrs. Slaten was a member of Arab First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband: Billy Slaten; her sons and daughter-in-law: Mike Miller, Greg and Diann Miller and Bart Miller; grandchildren: Blake Miller and Ashley, Dustin Miller and Johanna; great grandchildren: Brayden Penry and Kollyns Miller and a brother and sister in law: Ray Smith and Jean. She was preceded in death by her first husband: Leo Deon Miller; her parents: Garland David and Della Smith; and a brother: Garland David Smith Jr.
Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday September 2, 2017 at Arab Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Junior Plunkett and Dr. Clint Landry, officiating and Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing. Music will be provided by Holli Shelton.
Pallbearers will be Richard Campbell, Jack Campbell, Jon Campbell, Roger Miller, Patrick Smith and Russell Smith. Honorary Pallbearer will be Arlis Miller.
Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Friday September 2, 2017 prior to the service.
