Thomas Ray James, 88, of Arab, died Wednesday August 30, 2017 at Marshall Medical Center North.
Mr. James was born October 22, 1928 in St Clair County to Ira Deal “Jack” James and Crin Coffee James. He served in the Alabama National Guard for one year and worked as a maintenance supervisor for Huntsville Hospital until his retirement. He wife Verdus Hilda Hornsby James preceded him in death January 29, 2014. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, woodworking, gardening, and loved to repair things. He loved his dog Lucy.
Mr. James was a member of Old Brashiers Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter: Connie James Abbott; a sister: Jackie Lewis; grandchildren: Brandon and Darlene Abbott; great grandchildren: McKenzie Abbott, RileyGrace Abbott and Logan Abbott; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife: Verdus Hilda Hornsby James; his parents: Jack and Crin James; his brothers: Bobby James and Donald James; his sisters: Billie Chancelor, Norma Gail Palmer and Elsie Reneman.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 2, 2017 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Brandon Abbott and Nicky James, officiating. Burial will be in Brookwood Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Joe Williams, Drew Brown, Terry Beam, Jeff Yarbrough, Bud Jolly, Rob Keel, Tommy James and Will Brown.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jonathan Hornsby, Ross James, Andrew James, Ben James and Dewayne Jackson.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday September 1, 2017 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.
