Cynthia Lynne Davis began her life’s journey on April 22, 1953 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Jerry A. Davis, Jr. and Maureen Horton Davis and the oldest of three children.

She accepted Christ in her early teens and united with the Lakeside United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. Over the years, she served in a number of capacities, i.e. Harvest Tea Committee, Usher Board, Bereavement Committee, and anywhere else needed as her health would permit.   Cynthia was also an avid member of the Progressive Homemakers Club.  She was a “people person” with a soft spot for animals and truly loved her Pekingese, Buffy.

Cynthia received her K-12 education at Calvary Hill Elementary and Lee High Schools. Upon completing high school, she enrolled in Clark College.

She left college and accepted a job assignment at Gray Line Tours in Nashville, TN where she was an award winning travel agent. Miss Davis began her professional career in administration as the Administrative Assistant to Dr. Henry Ponder, President of Fisk University in Nashville, TN.  Upon Dr. Ponder’s retirement from Fisk, she returned to Huntsville in February of 1999 and joined Dr. Margaret Kelly’s staff in the Title III Program at Alabama A&M University. Here she earned the respect of co-workers and students alike with her thorough, yet warm approach to the everyday occurrences in  the Title III Grants and Contracts’ Office  until  failing health forced her to retire in March of 2009.

Cynthia Lynne Davis crossed the great divide on Sunday, August 13, 2017. She leaves to share her memory: her mother, Maureen Davis Cathey; three brothers: Jerry A. Davis, III of Huntsville, AL; Maurice (Denise) Davis of Knoxville, TN; Reginald Cathey, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Donza (Billy) Friend of Winston Salem, NC; two nieces; two nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be 12:00 p.m., Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Lakeside United Methodist Church (3738 Meridian Street N, Huntsville, AL 35811) with Pastor Tomasi Muhombe officiating.
