Jeanne Walker Derington – Obituary

Jeanne Walker Derington, 80, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away early Saturday, August 12, 2017. She was a loving mother, devoted and proud grandmother and dear friend. She grew up in Wytheville, Virginia with her parents, Mary Cassell and Carl David Walker, and her siblings, Phil, Joyce, Judy, Donnie and Gary. She had many happy memories and friendships from Wytheville that lasted her entire life. She married Ralph St. Clair Sutphin and had two children before his death in 1963. She was fortunate enough to find love again and was married in 1978 to James Curtis Derington, Sr. They were married for 33 years. They shared friendship, family, travel and fellowship at First Christian Church where she was an active member for 43 years. She went to nursing school at the University of Virginia and got her Master’s at Emory University, and later taught nursing at UAH. She will be remembered for her Kindness, her love of wildflowers and birds, and the grace and style with which she wore her many hats. She is survived by her children, Neil Stuphin (Sue), and Sally Wilson (Anthony); grandchildren, Emily, Jared, Reynolds, Walker, Zach and Mallory (Cameron); and her great-granddaughter, Finley. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, August 20 at First Christian Church, with the memorial service to follow. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Huntsville Botanical Garden.
