Betty Long Shipman McKelvy, age 78, died peacefully at her home, in Huntsville, surrounded by family. She is survived by her son Kenneth Shipman (Frances); daughter Terri Tait (James); grandchildren Rebecca, Amanda, Amy and Rachel; five great grandchildren; brother Billy Long (Hilda); sister Jane Rutledge (Daryl), and many other loving family and friends. She is preceded in death by husbands, Norman Shipman and Herb McKelvy and daughter Sherri Shipman. Betty was born in Dale County, Alabama, the eldest child of B and Ruth Long. She was a long-time resident of Huntsville and had been active in charitable, community and church activities.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11:30 on Tuesday, August 15 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Oakwood Road, Huntsville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Westminster Presbyterian Church Huntsville Building Fund, or to Hospice of the Valley.
