Mr. Samuel M. Hazelrig Jr. was born October 24, 1930 in Tarrant City, Alabama to the late Samuel M. Hazelrig Sr. and Mary Morrow Hewitt Hazelrig. He departed this life of August 6, 2017 at his daughter’s residence in Athens, Alabama.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He received his Bachelor and Master’s Degree from Auburn University. He was retired as an aerospace engineer from NASA. He also was a co-owner of Madison Research Corporation.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two children; Karen Cover Hazelrig and Samuel M. Hazelrig III.
He leaves to cherish her memory: her loving wife; Julia Ann McIntyre Hazelrig of Decatur; four children, Kristi (Davie) Smith of Evergreen, CO, April Kelli Hazelrig Dysart, Kerri Michele Hazelrig both of Athens, Darrel C. Hazelrig of Atlanta, GA; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Cooper Greene (Jane) Hazelrig of Birmingham, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will announce a memorial service at a later date.
