Margie Alice Wisdom Snodgrass, 72, of Huntsville, Alabama departed this life July 21st, 2017. She was born November 15, 1944 in Stevenson, AL, the daughter of the late Odella and Alexander Wisdom, Sr. She was the oldest of three siblings. Margie graduated from Carver High School in Scottsboro, AL. She received her bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University and her master’s degree from Alabama A&M University.

Margie Alice, as some affectionally called her, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Center Star Missionary Baptist Church in Stevenson, AL. On August 27, 1966, she married Rev. Horace N. Snodgrass of Huntsville, AL. From this union, God blessed them with two boys Jonathan and Dante.

In April of 1968, Horace was called to pastor the Freeman Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Moulton, AL where Margie served faithfully by his side as “First Lady” of the church until her illness.

Aristotle once said, “Those who educate children well are more to be honored than those who produce them…” Margie was an excellent and innovative educator in her own right. Her teaching career began at the Paint Rock Valley School in Jackson County. In 1972, she became the second African-American teacher to teach at Monte Sano Elementary School and taught there for twelve years. In 1984, she left Monte Sano Elementary to teach at Huntsville City School’s newly formed premier magnet school, the Academy for Academics and Arts (AAA). Margie taught at AAA until she retired after giving twenty-five years to the teaching profession. All of her former students and co-workers remember her as being a wonderful, loving, kind and selfless person who made an impact in their lives in some way or another.
Margie leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Jonathan (Lisa), and Dante’ (Jenny); one sister Gwendolyn Wisdom, one brother Alexander Wisdom, Jr.; two brother-in-laws, Dr. Wayne P. Snodgrass and Cleveland Wilson; one sister-in-law Eleanor Snodgrass; a very special nephew Alexander (Tre’) Wisdom III; five beautiful, intelligent and special grandchildren Kennady, Dante, Kendall, Sydney and Avery; her caregivers, Cora Baker, Kaye Goode and Lorene McCollins; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by one mother-in-law, Georgia P. Snodgrass, and two sister-in-laws, Lady Evelyn Snodgrass and Antoinette Wilson and one brother-in-law, Benny Snodgrass.
