Dorothy “Dottie” Jean Elliott, 94, of Florence, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home. She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio to Clyde and Ethel Curtis Branch. She was married for 55 years to the late Gober O. Elliott, a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. In 1962, Dottie and family moved to Florence, AL. It was here that she worked for nearly 25 years at the University of North Alabama as Secretary to the Registrar in the Admissions and Records’ Department. She was a member of First Christian Church in Florence for 45 years and served as Sunday School Secretary/Treasurer, Church Hostess, Deaconess, and finally Deaconess Emeritus.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 12:30-2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. James Storie of First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Survivors include four children: Jim Elliott (Kathy) of Florence, Tom Elliott (fiancée, Penny) of Pulaski, TN, Patti Ayers Lough of Tuscumbia, and Sherri Elliott Wright (Cliff) of Florence; grandchildren, Jennifer Elliott Roberts (Mark), Chad Elliott (Kelly), Allison Ayers Weaver (Derek), Kevin Elliott (Mirela), Kelly Ayers Owen (Ben), Christian Wright, and Kelsey Wright; great-grandchildren, Sam Elliott, Aleks Elliott, Cody James, Austin Elliott, Gunner Elliott, Will Weaver, Lee Ellis Owen, and Ryan Owen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Clyde O., William C. and Robert L. Branch and all of her original eight in-laws and their spouses.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Elliott, Chad Elliott, Cody James, Christian Wright, Derek Weaver, and Ben Owen.

Special thanks to her many wonderful caregivers who cared for her like family at Merrill Gardens, Elite Senior Care, and for the last ten years, Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home.
