Jean Price Teague – Obituary

Jean Price Teague, age 83, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017, after a brief illness with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She graduated from Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama in 1951 and Baptist Memorial Nursing School in Memphis, Tennessee. Following college Jean married Dr. Dale Teague. The family moved to Knoxville in 1963. Jean quickly fell in love with Knoxville and became very active in the community and passionate about UT sports. Jean served on Knoxville City Council for almost 30 years. She was a huge advocate for bringing the 1982 World’s Fair to Knoxville. She also served as Knoxville vice mayor and was a nurse at Fort Sanders Hospital. She was a passionate advocate for Knoxville serving on numerous community boards such as the Metropolitan Planning Commission, National League of Cities, Tennessee Municipal League, Wrecker Service Committee Chair, and more.

Jean was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a huge heart and never met a stranger. She was a very strong, supportive, passionate, Southern lady who loved life.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Hobson Price and Edna Talbot, and a grandchild, Cassimiro.

She is survived by her children, Pamela (William) Downey, of Dublin, Ireland, Kimberly (Gordon) Googe, Steven Teague, and Michael “Beetle” (Angela) Teague; grandchildren, Clif, Jenna and Holly Fortson, Andrew, Amy and Michael Googe, Alex Teague, and Chloe and Callie Teague; five great-grandchildren; brother, John Price; and sister, Martha Ruth Draper.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at West Hills Baptist Church in Knoxville followed by receiving of friends. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the E.M. Jellinek Center, 130 Hinton Ave., Knoxville, TN 37917, Salvation Army of Knoxville, P.O. Box 669, Knoxville, TN 37901, and Thompson Cancer Survival Center Foundation, 1915 White Ave., Knoxville, TN 37916.
