SHEFFIELD– On Monday afternoon, July 10 a man fell from the bluff.  The man was mowing the lawn when a wheel on the mower went over the edge of the bluff after the bluff gave way.

The accident happened behind a home on River Bluff Terrace.  According to witnesses the mower fell some 25 feet.  The man was pulled from the bluff with cuts to his face  and no other visible trauma.  It took emergency personnel 30 minutes to bring the man to safety.

The road over Wilson Dam will close at 8 a.m. Tuesday and is scheduled to reopen at approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday, a Tennessee Valley Authority spokesman said.

Jim Hopson of TVA said the closure is necessary to ensure the safety of motorists and work crews performing routine maintenance on the dam.

Barriers and gates will be in place and motorists are encouraged to use the Singing River Bridge or O’Neal Bridge to cross the Tennessee River.

The victim was taken to Huntsville Hospital by emergency helicopter.  It is believed the man’s injuries are not life-threatening.
