Mr. James (J.D.) Swanner, 90, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at his residence. He was born November 17, 1926, in Limestone County to James Dee Swanner and Minnie Lou Abernathy Swanner. He was a member of the Tanner United Methodist Church, a US Navy WWII Veteran, former Limestone County Commissioner and store merchant, and retired from Monsanto, Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcheta Haney Swanner.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Tanner Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6-9 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home.
Survivors include, his son, Jim Swanner, of Athens; daughters, Martha McBay, of Athens, Lynette McBay and husband, Donnie, of Athens; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special companion, Scooter
Pallbearers will be, Burt Nelson, James Caraballo, Adam Shelton, Jordan Paul, T.J. McBay and Donnie McBay.
