James Franklin Allred – Obituary

James Franklin Allred, 69, of Danville, Alabama went to Heaven on June 22, 2017. He was born July 27, 1947 in Opelika, Alabama to Annie Jo and Theodore Allred.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Linda Winslett; and his beloved son, John “Paul” Allred.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Sean and Amber Walker Allred; grandchildren, Ashtyn and Warren Allred; sister, Gloria Barr, of Opelika, Alabama; and many children he mentored.

James was a passionate advocate for children of abuse and neglect. Known as “Pop Allred” throughout Alabama, he made a positive impact on the lives of many children during his career with the Alabama Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranches.

After his retirement, James enjoyed another career at Wal-Mart in Decatur, Alabama, where he spent 19 years as a dedicated associate in sporting goods. James was a wonderful dad, pop, father-in-law, brother, and papaw. He loved corny jokes, sarcasm, gambling, wrestling, and Auburn football. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held today, June 25th at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur, Alabama.
