MONTGOMERY – The U.S. Department of Labor announced Friday that the Alabama Department of Labor is one of six states to receive a $1 million Workforce Data Quality Initiative grant. The grant will be used to develop a longitudinal data system which will allow various partner agencies to share existing data. Partner agencies include: the Alabama Department of Labor / Alabama Career Center System, the Alabama Department of Commerce, Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT), K-12 Education, the Community College System, the Alabama Workforce Council, the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, the Alabama Department of Human Resources, Alabama Adult Education, and the Alabama Department of Senior Services.

“This is wonderful news for the state of Alabama,” said Fitzgerald Washington, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Labor. “This unified database will allow us to determine the workforce needs of our citizens, and to make better decisions about the types of training programs we offer. Ultimately, this will benefit all Alabamians by helping us create a well-trained workforce that can take advantage of high-paying job opportunities.”

The grant will be disbursed over a three-year period.

The creation of this database will allow for performance information and specialized outcomes relating to various workforce programs offered throughout the state. The reports will be in a standardized, easy-tounderstand format that will allow customers to select the education and training programs that best suit their needs.

The Alabama Department of Labor / The Alabama Career Center System is a partner in Alabama Works, Alabama’s unified workforce system.
