TUSCUMBIA-The fountain in front of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame is once again flowing thanks to a stellar
volunteer team led by Bobby Denton, an inductee and former board member.
After discussions earlier this year between director Dixie Griffin, employee Bruce Crowden, and members of the board, it was decided the Hall of Fame would take on two major renovation projects under the leadership of Bobby Denton. The first project, cleaning out the planters, began in February and was completed in about a month. It involved removing over 500 tons of dirt and plants, which was replaced with 300 tons of gravel. Part of that project also involved re-painting the exterior trim, and pressure washing the entrance and sidewalks.

“I felt an obligation to do my best to get these mammoth projects done,” said Bobby Denton, “After a lot of research and consulting with local experts, I finally got the job done with the help of a lot of people and a lot of hard work. This was truly a labor of love.”

The second major project, repairing the fountain, involved several volunteers including, Denton, Larry Lewis, Mike Wilson, Andy Brown, Jay Gautney, Discount Dan’s, Vulcan Material Co., Rogers Group, and
the Tuscumbia Public Works Department, Fire Department and Utilities Department.

“Repairing the fountain has always been on our radar, but prior estimates had been upwards of $20,000 to replace the system,” said Dixie Griffin, director of the Hall of Fame. “We just needed the right group of people
to get the job done.”  The fountain spent years empty due to a pump malfunction. The repairs included replacing the pump,
some of the pipes, and cleaning the jet nozzles. In its former state, it dampened the feel of the museum for locals, and potential visitors.
The deteriorating fountain had effects beyond just the local area. “The state of the fountain was negatively impacting our image on the internet. It’s mentioned in reviews going back years, “ said John Moseley, curator. “We have thousands of people viewing our information every month potentially planning visits to the area. This will go a long way in polishing our online presence.”
These projects come after last Fall’s successful repair of the small stage located in the field west of the Hall of Fame.
