TVA Begins Investigation Into Death Of 12-Year-Old Girl At Rockpile Waterfall

SHEFFIELD-Georgia Myrick, 12 died shortly after being taken by ambulance to Helen Keller Hospital on Wednesday, June 7.  Myrick was swept into a drain pipe at TVA Rockpile recreation area.

The Tennessee Valley Authority began their investigation into this accident on Thursday, June 8 to determine how Myrick was pulled into the dain pipe at the Rockpile waterfall.

Scott Fiedler, public and community relations official with TVA:

“We’re trying to figure out how this happened first. TVA Police are in the process of completing their investigation into this incident. The main focus is on how this happened and, as always, we want to figure out how we can be safer.”

“We would like to thank all of the first responders, hospital staff and TVA employees who responded to this incident. Your efforts were heroic.” 

Fielder says once the investigation is completed, the findings will be released.

 Sheffield Police have been helping with the investigation and will continue to assist TVA Police says Police Chief Greg Ray.

The playground and waterfall of the Rockpile Recreation Area will remain closed until the investigation is completed.

The boat ramp and parking area will remain open.
