Dorothy Lumpkins “Dot” Parkes, age 98, passed away peacefully following a short illness on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at STRHS, Lawrenceburg. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James F. Parkes, Sr. and other family members and siblings. Dot is survived by her four children, Judy Parkes Piovarcy (Lee), Carol Parkes James (Sid), Jim Parkes, Jr. (Claudette), and Marian Lee Parkes, all of Lawrenceburg, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who reside in Lawrenceburg, Atlanta, Nashville and Oklahoma City.

During her lifetime Dot was active in her church, The First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceburg, the Lioness Club, the ABC Club, Thursday Club and the Flower Lovers Circle. She was supportive of church, school and community activities along with her husband and children and most recently her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Taught the finer points of baseball by Jim, Sr., she became a lover of the game and avidly followed the Atlanta Braves, rarely missing one of their televised games.

Services for Dot Parkes conducted by Rev. James Sewell of Nashville will be held at First United Methodist Church, Lawrenceburg, on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM with funeral services to follow and burial in Mimosa Cemetery. Pall bearers will be her grandsons, Jay Piovarcy, John Piovarcy, Daniel Hunt, Tracy Dean and great-grandsons Dylan Piovarcy and Eli Carlson.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made in memory of the life of Dorothy Lumpkins Parkes to The First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceburg, or the Lawrence County Education Foundation.

A very special thank you from the family is extended to the caregivers from Summit at Home who cared for our Mother in her home for the past six plus years and to the staff at NHC Lawrenceburg and STRHS for their care during these last few months of her life.

Neal Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
