Florence LeCroix Russell – Obituary

Florence LeCroix Russell, 94, of Athens died Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Limestone Health Facility. Services will be today, May 19, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Green officiating. Entombment in Limestone Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Joe LeCroix, Jimmy Woodward, Jeff Abernathy, Barry Jones, Jonathan McCrary and Gage Abernathy.

Mrs. Russell was born Nov. 23, 1922 in Limestone County. She was a member of Round Island Baptist Church in Athens, a retired lunchroom worker at Reid Elementary School and Athens Elementary and a member of the Eastern Star and White Shrine of Decatur.

Survivors include her husband of 76 years, Matthew A. Russell; son, Gene Russell (Peggy), Athens; grandchildren, David Russell, Atlanta, Gina Jones (Barry), Athens, Sandy Abernathy (Jeff), Athens, Joy Woodward (Jimmy), Athens; great-grandchildren, Jonathan McCrary, Jennifer Johnson, Gage Abernathy, Skye Abernathy, Maddi Woodward, Connor Woodward, Jon Ray Russell; five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Joe LeCroix, Athens; sister, Catherine Reithmire, Decatur; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Tom and Bertha LeCroix; son, Thomas (Sonny) Russell; brothers, Charlie LeCroix, Max LeCroix, Mahlon LeCroix, Buddy LeCroix; sisters, Era Mae Parker, Mary Jane Lott, Martha Ann Roberts.

Memorials may be made to Round Island Baptist Church.
