Dorothy Brown Hess – Obituary

Dorothy Brown Hess, 84, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Hess, a native of Madison County and a resident of Huntsville for almost 70 years, was the seventh of 10 children born to Walter Carlyle Brown and Hattie Knox Brown.

Mrs. Hess was preceded in death by her parents, seven of her siblings, daughter-in-law Caroline McCulloch Hess, and by her beloved husband of almost 56 years, James Henry Hess.  She is survived by sisters Alma Peck of Huntsville and Carolyn Corley of Eureka, Missouri; and by her sons Jim Hess (Ruth) of Huntsville, Ted Hess (Kristen) of Katy, Texas, Mark Hess (Margaret) of Vestavia Hills, Alabama and Andy Hess (Andrea) of Brunswick, Maine; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at Southwood Presbyterian Church, with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Will Spink officiating.  Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.

The family would like to express its deep gratitude to Pearline McReynolds and her staff at The Haven for Greater Living for loving and caring for Mrs. Hess during her final years.
