Annie “Christine” Robertson Gambrell – Obituary

Annie “Christine” Robertson Gambrell age 92, of Lawrenceburg, TN departed this earthly home on Sunday, May 14, 2017 after a brief illness at NHC Scott.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Marcus Eugene (Gene) Gambrell, Sr.; one daughter, Deborah Kaye Gambrell; one son, Marcus Eugene Gambrell, Jr.; parents, William L. and Mary Springer Robertson of Wayne County, TN; and brothers, William and Archie Robertson.  Christine was the last adult charter member of New Prospect Baptist Church which was organized in 1952 serving as Church Clerk for over 40 years, taught an Adult Ladies Sunday School class, was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and worked in Bible School as a teacher.  Christine also was a member of the New Prospect Home Demonstration (FCE) Club and contributed weekly article “Lone Star News’ for the Democrat Union newspaper for over 50 years.  Christine loved to sew, crochet, quilt, garden, camp and fish.  The county fair always had entries from her talent and she won countless ribbons.

Christine is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann (Mike) Cathey of Sebastian, FL; one son, Eddie Don Gambrell of Greenville, SC; and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Johnson Gambrell of Nashville, TN.  Survived by granddaughter, Christy (Jacques) Weary of Chattanooga, TN; three grandsons, Kenneth “Kenny” Eugene Belew of Linden, TN; Michael Todd (Crystal) Belew of Phenix City, AL; and Jonathan Harold (Jennifer) Belew of Bellevue, NE.  Great granddaughters, Karley Hannah and Kensey Lynn Steelman, Leoma, TN; Olivia Belew, Phenix City, AL; and Kiana Weary, Boston, MA.  Three great grandsons, Xander Pascal and Hudson Eugene Belew, Phenix City, AL; also, Owen Harold Belew, Bellevue, NE.  Step granddaughters Dovie Cathey (Gus) MacPherson and Jamie Cathey (Josh) Davis of Columbia, TN; and their children Sydney and Nathan MacPherson, Thatcher and Sawyer Davis.  She was especially loved by Christy (Eddie) Steelman and Kay Tucker as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, May 26, 2017 at Neal Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted at New Prospect Baptist Church at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 27, 2017, with Brad Lowery and Bill Millican officiating.  Mrs. Gambrell will lie in state from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the church.  Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Wayne County, Tennessee.  Family suggests memorials be made to New Prospect Baptist Church Building Fund or Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
