James H. “Buddy” Denton – Obituary

James H. “Buddy” Denton, of Sheffield, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the age of 89. His visitation will be Friday, May 19, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Chad Holder officiating. He will be buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Buddy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge 503, Woodmen of the World, West Tennessee Campers and Dancers, and the Ironworkers Local 477. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Lillie Mae Denton; sisters, Vera Lair and Dorothy Denton; and brother, Johnny Denton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lorene Denton of Sheffield; son, James Mark Denton (Helene) of Muscle Shoals; daughters, Gina Denton Mashburn (Tim) and Tina Denton Nesbitt (Boyce) both of Muscle Shoals; brother, Senator Bobby E. Denton (Barbara); sister, Cala Denton Warhurst (Tommy); six grandchildren, James Houston Mashburn, Timothy Ross Mashburn, Jacob Denton, Zachary Denton, Grant Nesbitt, and Brett Ann Nesbitt; great-grandchild, Ariel Hayven Anderson; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
He lived a full life surrounded by many friends and family. Buddy enjoyed being outside, camping, and square dancing. His most favorite place to be was his lake cabin, “Papaw’s Lake” on Buchannon Peninsula, where he loved fishing, shooting snakes and ground squirrels, and watching the beautiful sunset.
Buddy’s grandsons will serve as his pallbearers.
