William Earl “Bill” Roper – Obituary

William Earl “Bill” Roper, 89, of Sheffield, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017. His visitation will be Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 5 pm until 7 pm at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. His graveside service will be Friday, May 19th at 10:30 am with Chad Holder officiating at Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Bill retired as plant manager of T.V.A. Power Service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sheffield, a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge 503 F & AM, former member of Sheffield Rotary, former member of the National Management Association, a member of Plumber and Steamfitters Local 760, a Veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served during WWII, and a proud Sheffield Bulldog who played on the first undefeated team. In his own words: he loved his family and all of his many friends and was very happy that he could help a lot people in many ways.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sabyne Blankenship Roper; infant son, William Howard Roper; parents, Samuel Edward and Bettye Crow Roper; and siblings, Huldah Chaffin and Robert E. Roper.
Bill was survived by his daughter, Susan Roper Young and her husband, Brian; grandsons, Brandon Young and wife Kim, and Brent Young and wife Amy; and grandchildren, Taylor Kate, Lilly, Audrey, Carson, and Brody.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Brandon Young, Brent Young, Eric Rickman, Brian Rhoades, David McCollum, Bart Bodkins, and Horace Crowden.
The family expresses their grateful appreciation for the care and support of Eldercare Caregivers, Kindred Hospice, and Dr. Jack McLendon.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to First Baptist Church of Sheffield, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Salvation Army, or Alabama Sheriff’s Ranch.
