Dorothy Louise Hearn Barnes Massey, age 94, passed away May 16, 2017 at Southern Oaks Assisted Living.

Mrs. Massey was born December 20, 1922 in Chester County, the daughter of the late Thomas Lacy Hearn, Sr. and Lena Deltha Holloway Hearn. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1940, where she was the first homecoming queen, a cheerleader, and played on the basketball team. She attended Freed-Hardeman College and graduated from Jackson State College with an associate degree in X-Ray Technology. She worked at The Henderson Medical Building with Drs. McCallum and Wilson and later at Jackson General Hospital as an x-ray tech for thirty years. She was a member of the Tennessee Society of Radiology Technologists, serving as secretary and treasurer.

She was active in First United Methodist Church, serving on several committees, Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. She had done volunteer work at The Gleaners.

Mrs. Massey is survived by a son-in-law, Carlos Schmitt and a granddaughter, Carla Schmitt and her husband Mike, and a great grandson, Keegan Schmitt all of Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Lindsey Massey, a daughter Janice Schmitt in 2012, a sister Mary Emma Hearn Creed and a brother Thomas Lacy (T.L.) Hearn, Jr.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday at Shackelford – Casey Chapel with Paul Schierer and Roger Penn officiating. Burial will be at Henderson City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday.
