Samuel Callaway “Boots” Futrell – Obituary

Samuel Callaway “Boots” Futrell, age 90, died Monday, May 15, 2017.  Visitation will be Thursday May 18, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Graveside services will be held at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens beginning at 2:00p.m. Rev. Jim Storie will be officiating. Elkins funeral home is assisting the family.

 

Sam was born in Florence on November 2, 1926.  He left high school to serve in the United States Navy during World War II.  After the war, he came back and finished high school. He played football for Tom Braly at Coffee High School and made All State.  He then went and played for Memphis State before returning home to help support his mother.   He worked for Bellsouth for 35 years and was active in the union early on. After retiring from Bellsouth, he enjoyed keeping up with family and friends. He was a helpful and giving person who never turned anyone down.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Parker Futrell; parents, John and Mary Sue Futrell; brothers, John and Bill Futrell; sisters Ruby Jewell Futrell and Betty Chadde.

 

He is survived by sons Mark, Jeff (Tracy) and Brad Futrell all of Florence; grandchildren Will and Coby Elizabeth Futrell.

 

Pallbearers will be Al Futrell, George Futrell, David Futrell, Will Futrell, Kevin Jackson and Terry Motes Jr.

 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude or The American Legion Florence Post #11   318 S Court St, Florence, AL 35630
