Dan Williams Memorial Blood Drive for Paint the Town Purple

ATHENS-In honor of Paint the Town Purple Week, the City of Athens Relay for Life Team, the family of Dan Williams and LifeSouth are hosting the Dan Williams Memorial Blood Drive on Thursday, May 11, from 9-5 on the east side of The Square (Marion Street).

Our goal is 25 pints. Last year, the community came out and donated 35 pints.

Dan Williams, known as Mayor Dan, served as the mayor of Athens and our state representative. He was diagnosed with leukemia while serving as state representative and had to have blood transfusions during his treatment. He fought a tough fight. He died in 2015. Thank you for helping us save lives in his memory by donating blood for those who continue to fight cancer and other diseases.

Those who want to donate need to drink plenty of water prior to giving blood. Donors must be at least 17 years old.
