Betty Gene Rogers Hawkins – Obituary

Betty Gene Rogers Hawkins, 73, joined the presence of the Lord at 4:22 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, from the North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born March 24, 1944, to Oscar and Edna Mae Duke Rogers. She met Billy Vaden Hawkins in the summer of 1962, and they were married on December 17, 1962. She worked as a seamstress and supervisor in sewing factories. She was owner and operator of Betty’s Restaurant for 25 years where she loved her job and her customers. She enjoyed feeding the Mooreville football players from 2006-2009. Her hobbies included cooking, playing cards to win, and spending time with her daughters, grandsons, and great-grandson.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Danny Thomas and Bro. Castor Buse officiating.  Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Billy Vaden Hawkins, and her daughters, Tracy Hawkins Smith (Johnathon) and Stacy Hawkins Armstrong-Dunaway, all of Mantachie; her grandsons, Johnathon Crawfords Smith, Jr. (Allyson), Joshua CharlieVaden Smith (fiancée Nikkie Fauver), and Kaden Nathaniel Dunaway; her great-grandson, Aden Wyatt Smith; a special niece, Rita Fay Dotson; special great-nephews, Michael Dotson (Hannah) and Tony Dotson (Lizzy); special great-great nephews, Michael David and Jackson Dotson; and special great-great niece, Harper Faith Dotson; one brother, Berry Rogers of Fulton; one sister, Connie Rogers Lesley of Ash Flat, AR; a special friend, Wayne Miller; and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; ten brothers, George Rogers, Alton Rogers, Alvie “Buck” Rogers, C.D. Rogers, Lee Roy Rogers, Quitman “Pete” Rogers, Oscar Edward “Dick” Rogers, Dexter Rogers, Paul Rogers, and Jerry Rogers; seven sisters, Mabel Rogers, Myrtle Rogers Wigginton, Vena Mae McCary, Willie Tom Crum, Dollie Ruth Rogers Johnson, Lela Rogers, and Lena Rogers Thomas; and a special great-niece, Heather Faith Dotson.

Pallbearers will be Wes Rogers, Randle Wigginton, Danny Wigginton, Frankie Lindsey, John Charles Lollar, Gearl Loden, Josh Box, Benton Whitt, Jordan Mann, Bradley Aderhold, and Jeremy Rice.

Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Johnson, Doug Johnson, Tony Dotson, Michael Dotson, David Prichard, Larry Gore, and Larry Dee Brown.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 1, and from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday, May 2, at the funeral home in Mantachie.
