James Spencer Price – Obituary

Rev. James Spencer Price, 84, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Sanctuary Hospice after a brief illness. He was born January 17, 1933, to Stephen E. and Daisy Felts Price. He was raised in Kilmichael; and after graduating from college, he received his Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He was a United Methodist minister serving at Maben UMC, Webb UMC, Senatobia First UMC, Clarksdale St. Paul UMC, Greenwood First UMC, and New Albany First UMC. He was then district superintendent at Starkville before going to Hattiesburg Main Street UMC. After retiring, he moved to Fulton, where he became an instrumental part of Fulton United Methodist Church. He was a Sunday school teacher, sound technician, and co-director of the food pantry until his death. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a. m. Saturday at the Fulton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phillip Box, the Rev. Bob Whitehead, and Dixie Russell officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one son, James Scott Price (Vanessa) of Clarksville, TN; one daughter, Kayren Dale Morrison (Ted) of Fulton; four grandchildren, Whitney Price Swallows (Justin), Stephen Price (Sheri), Shelby Price (Liz), and James Watson; six great grandchildren, Sam, Briana, Harper, Kennedy, Averie, and Shepard.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Dickerson Price, who died in 2010; two infant daughters, Barbara and Beth Price; one sister, Louise “Mutt” Garrett; and his parents.

Pallbearers will be Harvey Clements, Tommy Weatherford, Sean Cannon, Rev. Don Bishop, Dr. David Cole, and Larry Pate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at Fulton United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the FUMC Food Pantry, PO Box 907, Fulton, MS 38843.
