 Ronald Lewis ‘Ronnie’, ‘Ron’ Vaughn was born January 10, 1961 in Cookeville, TN and died April 23, 2017 at his home in Decatur, AL He is survived by his wife, Candi McMillan Vaughn of Decatur, AL; daughter, Jayce Vaughn Huntsville, AL; father, Dennis Vaughn Madison, AL; stepdaughter, Madison McMillan Dunn (Ty); stepson, Logan McMillan of Decatur; brother, Robert Vaughn (Wendy); sister, Julie Vaughn Oswell (Jim) of Huntsville; former spouse, Leigh Vaughn of Huntsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his son, Hogan Davis Vaughn, Huntsville and mother, Joyce Davis Vaughn, Madison.

Ron was a dedicated, motivating and caring son, athlete, father, coach and mentor; traits that served him well throughout his young and adult life. Ron and family moved to southeast Huntsville in 1967 where he became a three-sport athlete at Grissom High School. Ron later was all conference baseball catcher at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), played in the NCAA tournament and signed a pro-baseball contract. Following receipt of his Master’s degree and a very successful assistant baseball coaching career at MTSU (five NCAA regional appearances and 29 players drafted into pro-baseball) he returned to Huntsville where he used his coaching and mentoring skills as manager with Walmart, Kohl’s, the Apple Store and Academy Sports. He was inducted into the Huntsville, Madison County Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 28 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2330 Bob Wallace Ave SW, Huntsville, AL. Visitation will also be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday followed by a memorial service in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Ron’s honor be made to the Kindred Hospice or the Hogan Vaughn ScholarshipFund, c/o Bonnie Venezia, Grissom High School.
