Richard Lee Hancock – Obituary

Richard Lee Hancock, age 69, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 24, 2017. Mr. Hancock was born October 14, 1947 in Danville, Illinois to Ernest Vernon and Etta Eunice Hancock.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with Dr. Doug Ripley officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Matthew Craig Hancock; brother, John Hancock; two sisters, Lena Mae Cox and Wilma Shelato.

His survivors include his wife of 46 years: Sylvia Lee Hancock; son Christopher John Hancock (Susan); daughter, Candice Hancock McClanahan (Wesley); two beautiful granddaughters who called him “Pop”, Macy Clair Hancock and Aubrey Kate McClanahan; and three sisters Jeannie Ardire, Betty Lee (David), and Diana Jumps (Richard).
Richard graduated from North Vermillion High School and joined the U. S. Army in June, 1965. He was awarded the Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam on May 12, 1966. Mr. Hancock is retired from Delphi and a member of Decatur Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be family members.
