Carrie Elizabeth Thompson Nelson – Obituary

Carrie Elizabeth Thompson Nelson was the first child born to the late Theo and Gracie Mae Thompson on July 10, 1921, in Russellville, Ala. She received her heavenly wings Tuesday evening, Aug. 28, 2012, at Russellville Hospital. She confessed Christ during her early childhood. She was baptized and joined First Baptist Church, Russellville, Ala., serving as secretary of the Missionary Society and supervisor of the youth choir for many years. She remained a faithful, loyal and dedicated member of the church until her health declined.

Carrie Thompson and Silas Nelson were united in marriage, Sep. 4, 1938. They were blessed with four children.

She was preceded in death by her son Grady Harold; parents; siblings, Louise Bigby, Julia Grace White, Hattie Ellen Hollingsworth, Theo Eugene Thompson, Curtis Thompson, James Henry Thompson, Minnie Pearl Pride, Lillie Mae Thompson, Barbara Thompson, Florine Thompson and Conway (Connie) Thompson.

She leaves a legacy for relatives to cherish fond memories and love to her husband, Silas Nelson; sons, Charles (Madgie) Nelson, William Calvin (Wilma) Nelson; daughter, Hazel (Bobby) McCulloch; sisters, Elayne Thompson, Edith Carolyn Crum; grandchildren, Mario (Laretta) McCulloch, Myron (Kimberly) McCulloch, Charese (Duane) Crawford, Carlos (Deirdre) Nelson, Canette Nelson, Caritra Nelson and Corey Nelson (Colandra); great-grand children, Maurice McCulloch (Kookit), Montrae McCulloch (Erica), Tiffany Reynolds (Antoine), Micah McCulloch, Aireon McCulloch and Kennedi Nelson; precious great-great- grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Pauline Nelson and Jessie Thompson, Nadine Thompson; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Public viewing will be Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Funeral Home, Muscle Shoals. Visitation with family will be Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, Sep. 1, 2012, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Russellville with Reverend B. J. Bonner officiating.
