James Edward Merryman – Obituary

James Edward Merryman, age 92 of Tuscumbia went home April 18, 2017.
His family will receive friends Friday, 10-11 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Barrett Long officiating. Interment service will be private.

Mr. Merryman was born January 25, 1925 in Walnut, Mississippi. He was a veteran of WWII, and served in Darby’s Rangers. He was captured and spent seventeen months in a POW camp; he came home, met and married the love of his life, Mamie Hill Merryman in 1946. He was retired from TVA and a member of IBEW Local #558, American Legion, VFW and First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia. He was a 32 degree Mason and past commander of the POW chapter of North Alabama. He loved hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Mamie Merryman; son, Bobby Merryman (Wayna) of Tuscumbia; daughter, Linda Hannon (Ray) of Nashville, TN, five grandchildren; Allen Smith (Tina) of Nashville, James Hannon of Tuscumbia, Vallerie Hernandez (Josue’) of Mobile, Monty Merryman (Jennifer) of Florence and David Merryman(Erin) of Nashville, and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Bobby Merryman, Monty Merryman, James Hannon, Ricky Crum, Ray Hannon and Tommy Smith.
