, 88, Muscle Shoals, had his final homecoming Good Friday, April 14, 2017 surrounded by all his family and his three girls! Burl stood before his father and heard those words he had longed to hear, “Good job my good and faithful servant, with you I am well pleased”

Burl was born in Spruce Pine, AL and was one of middle child to Wayman and Pearl Pounders where he and his 14 siblings worked as sharecroppers in a 2 bedroom home filled with love and was taught hard work, humility, and importance of family. Burl attended Phil Campbell High School and graduated with honors. After high school he met the love of his life, Anita, who he would spend the next 67 years calling wife and with whom he would start his family and have Vickie and Tammy. Burl followed some brothers to Detroit, MI for work in manufacturing industry and would spend 18 years there before becoming a licensed realtor in 1954 and after practicing in Detroit for years he decides to move back home and open Burl Pounders Reality with offices in Muscle Shoals and Florence and shortly after established Pounders Building Company with Anita overseeing day to day operations. Through his long and successful career in real estate and home building he served as President of Shoals Home Builders Assoc. as well as President of Board of Realtors. He also served as Finance Chairman-BOR (79′-90′) and National Director-SHBA (78′-90′). Burl was honored in 2015 into the SHBA Hall of Fame for all contributions.

Everything that Burl was because of his devout faith in his Lord and Savior. He started every morning by waking before sunrise to spend hour reading the Word of God and spending time talking to his father. He based every choice in life based on honoring his Heavenly Father and his family name. Burl made sure his family was always involved in church and spent most his life teaching Sunday school and being deacon. For Burl and Anita Faith and Family was most important and most their life their 2 daughters and 7 grandkids all attended the same church and Sunday after church lunch at Pounders Home was a weekly occurrence filled with love, laughter, and lunch! Burlon was a leader in his professional life, his spiritual life, and the leader of our family!
