F.J. “Jimmy” Weatherford Jr., age 92, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Visitation will be Friday, April 14, 2017, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Franklin Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Russellville, Alabama, with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. Richard Parker will be officiating.

Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Russellville, where he was a member of the Dillard-Baughman Sunday school class. He worked at First National Bank and Colonia Bank as a loan officer and senior vice president until his retirement. He was also a Mason and served as a Russellville city councilman. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II.

Mr. Weatherford was preceded in death by his parents, Foss James Weatherford Sr. and Lurlie Berry Weatherford; wife, Mable Grant Weatherford; and daughter, Janice Weatherford. Two sisters, Madge Weatherford Turner McRight and Edith Weatherford Pierce, and a brother, John Berry Weatherford, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Steve Pierce (Sheila), Florence, Alabama, Jean Pierce McKnight (Jimmy), Augusta, Georgia, Martha Pierce Kimbrough (Rickey), Russellville, Alabama, Mary Emma Turner Wakefield, Brandon, Mississippi, Dixie Weatherford Carter, Florence, Alabama, Carolyn Atkins Porter (Joe), Russellville, Alabama, and Grant Atkins (Beverly), Russellville, Alabama; and long time special friend, Nelda Cooper, Russellville, Alabama; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Even though Jimmy was tall in stature, he had a kind and generous heart and was a “true southern gentleman.” He always said that God had been so good and gracious to him that he felt the need to share his vegetables from his bountiful garden with his friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one’s church or favorite charity.

Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville, assisted the family.
