Robert Shelton Grimes – Obituary

Robert Shelton Grimes, age 91, of Russellville, passed away on Sunday, April 09, 2017 at his residence.

Shelton was the Sunday School Superintendent of the Year for the Church of God in Illinois, and served numerous years on the Pastor’s Council in both Illinois and Alabama for the Church of God. He retired from both John Mansfield and Celotex. His love for God and his family was the most important things in his life, closely followed by his love of fishing.

The visitation will be 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Spry Memorial Chapel, with Bro. Nick McSpadden and Bro. Greg Corble officiating. Burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens.

He was preceded in death by wife of 42 years, Virginia Lindsay Grimes; grandson, Jeremy Grimes; parents, Rhoda Maudine (Ivy) and Jerdan Grimes; 2 brothers, Earl Grimes, Carnie Grimes; 2 sisters, Faye Parker and Jewel Sides.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, Larry Grimes (wife, Deb) of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Steve Grimes (wife, Anita) of Phil Campbell, AL; Tom Grimes (wife, Susan) of Hodges, AL; daughter, Brenda Johnson (husband, JR) of Spruce Pine; grandchildren, Robby Grimes, Kyle Grimes, Josh Grimes, Steven Grimes, Noah Grimes, Tim Grimes, Misty Grimes, Stephanie Grimes, Lindsay Sokolowski, Tristan Johnson, Ashley Johnson; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Boyd Grimes; special nieces, Sarah Ozbirn, Rhonda Spencer, Nancy McCarley; a host of other nieces & nephews; and his beloved four legged friend, Allie.

The pallbearers will be Kyle Grimes, Josh Grimes, Steven Grimes, Noah Grimes, Tim Grimes, and Tristan Johnson. The honorary pallbearer will be Rodney Smallwood.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Kevin and Julie with Hospice for your special care given to our dad; as well as to special family friend, Bessie Riley for your love and care.
