Paula Gaye Parsons Honeycutt, 79, of Iuka, MS, left her earthly home for a better place on Friday, April 7, 2017, at Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home. Paula Gaye was born the sixth of seven children to William Looney and Hazel Callicott Parsons on February 15, 1938. She grew up on a farm in the Sardis/Holcut community, and graduated from Holcut High School. She loved gospel music. Paula Gaye had a beautiful voice, and enjoyed playing the piano and accordion. She married James D. “Jim” Honeycutt on November 6, 1958. Jim was a single parent and he took his new bride and two small children, Kevin and Rhonda, and they made their home in Huntsville, AL, where Jim was employed with the federal government. Paula Gaye and Jim completed their family when Donna was born in 1959 and Cullen in 1965. Jim’s work took their family to Loogootee, IN, where Jim passed from this life on March 10, 1974. As the children grew up and went their own ways, Paula Gaye lost Donna in an accident in 1981. Her stepson Kevin passed away in 2014. Paula Gaye found a very special friend and companion in Howard Smack. They made their home in Fort Collins, CO. Cullen and his wife brought children back into her life with two grandsons, James and David. She loved spending time with them when they were small. Paula Gaye lost Howard to cancer in 2012. Following Howard’s death, and in failing health, she moved back home to Iuka. Although she had many health issues, she usually had a smile and a kind word to share with her family and friends. She spent the last three years in the Tishomingo Living Center and Tishomingo Manor nursing homes, where she made lots of friends wheeling up and down the halls, meeting and greeting folks. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 9, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 10, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Bro. Franky Smith. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery.
