William Joseph Wieseman – Obituary

William Joseph Wieseman, 75, of Toney passed away Thursday. Bill graduated from St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky where he played football and sang in the Glee Club. He was inducted into the St. Xavier Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988. He was recruited to play football at the University of Alabama where he was a member of the 1961 National Championship team. Bill graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and later from Alabama A&M with a Master’s Degree in Industrial Arts. He served as a teacher and coach for over 39 years in Huntsville City and Madison County Schools. In 2006, he was inducted into the Huntsville-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing both his accomplishments as an athlete and his long career as a high school football and track coach at Huntsville High School and Sparkman High School.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ada; daughter, Lesli Wieseman Butler; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Wieseman; and brother, Robert Wieseman. Survivors include son, Kevin Wieseman and wife, Stephanie; son-in-law, Bryan Butler; grandchildren, Leah Butler, Bradley Butler, Will Wieseman and Andy Wieseman; siblings, Paul Wieseman (Linda), Paula Sharpenstein (Quentin), Donna Morse, Cindy Reed (John), Jeanie Day (Steve), and Jules Wieseman (Mary); and twelve nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Madison Cross Roads Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Schools Foundation (P. O. Box 763, Huntsville, AL 35804).
