Betty Jo Cooper Sibley – Obituary

Betty Jo Cooper Sibley, age 80, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017, at ECM Hospital.

Betty was born in Hamilton, Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 20, 1937. Later she moved to Russellville where she attended high school and was a cheerleader. She served on many committees and enjoyed fellowship of First Baptist Church of Russellville. One of her favorite activities was playing cards with “the posse.” She was a member of the Rotary Club, Cancer Society, Willing Workers Sunday school class, and Emmaus (Walk 111). One of her delights was opening her home to friends and family.

The visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Russellville with the funeral following at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Dr. Gene Balding and Reverend Patrick Martin. Burial will follow at Knights of Pythias Cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Gene Ellison, Lyn Lindsey, Nicholas Sibley, Ricky Hall, Johnny Hardin, Dr. J. Terry Graves, Darren Presley, and Mike Presley. The honorary pallbearers will be Rotary Club member and special friends, Joleen Stockton, Don and Sandi Weiler, Judy Hitt, Kathy Cleveland, Libby Daniel, Clara Berry, and Joyce Swinney.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, David M. Sibley Jr., (wife, Su Jing), James J. Sibley (wife, Michele), Ellen T. Sibley, and Christopher H. Sibley; grandchildren, Jordan, Kristen, Nicholas, Elizabeth, and David (III) Sibley; sisters, Marie Ellison and Johnnie Lindsey; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David M. Sibley; parents, Hugh and Ellen Cooper; brothers, Lee Cooper and J.E. Cooper; and sister, Sue Fowler.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many, staying active with Sibley Oil and her community.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
