Kay Margaret “Peggy” Sullivan Tyler – Obituary

Kay Margaret “Peggy” Sullivan Tyler left this world peacefully March 16, 2017, at the age of 83 years old, after a brief illness in Fairhope, Alabama.

A native of Terrell County, Georgia, Peggy was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women, earning a BS degree in business education.

She and her family moved to Decatur in 1964. As a resident of Decatur, Peggy became a dedicated servant of her church and community. At Ninth Street United Methodist Church, she served as church librarian and was a member of a church circle and active in Sunday school.

She became a community leader, serving as chairwoman of the Decatur Planning Commission 2001-2003; president of the Decatur Woman’s Club (and named their Woman of the Year in 1967 and 1993); a member of the Board of Directors of Operation Home; a loyal member of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce; and a member of the Decatur Safety Council. She was also a member of the Les Femmes Elegantes chapter of the Red Hat Society; the Oak Leaves; and various other social organizations.

Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Larry Tyler; her mother, Zelma Sullivan; and her father, Kay Mack Sullivan. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 64 years, Oran; two sons, Rick and Tom; two grandchildren, Shelby and Joshua; and two sisters, Pat Giles and Fran George.

A celebration of her life service will begin at 1 p.m. tomorrow, March 21st at Roselawn Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at noon and last until service time. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
