William Gotcher – Obituary

William Gotcher, 86, of Muscle Shoals, died Saturday, March 18, 2017. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, March 21, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Will Vaden officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Military funeral honors will be provided by American Legion Post #31.

Mr. Gotcher was a native of Colbert County and a lifetime member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Gotcher was a very accomplished carpenter who participated in the construction of many local structures in Colbert and Lauderdale counties. He was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, D.A.V., American Legion Post #31, and Carpenter’s Union Local #1209.

Mr. Gotcher was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Gotcher; parents, William A. and Annie Lee Carter Gotcher; and brother, John Gotcher.

He is survived by his son, Henry Gotcher (Kathy); daughters, Cheryl Smith (Ron) and Janet Lansdell (Mike); grandchildren, Jamie deFoor (Jason), Tracie Mooring (Wyatt), Will Gotcher, Austin Lansdell, Ben Gotcher, Logan Lansdell, and Marc Gotcher; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Lincoln, and Lillian deFoor, and Allie Gray and Wyatt Mooring IV; brother, Lee Mac Gotcher; and sister, Mary Ann McCoy.

Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are nephews Jim McCoy, Troy Gargis, Kerry Black, Freddie Lansdell, Larry Brown, Glen Brown, Terry Willis, and friends Harvey Gandy, Trent Butler, and Jim Taylor.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jack McLendon, Sue Blake, R.N., and the staff of Brentwood Retirement Community.
