FLORENCE-In honor of Women’s History Month, Florence/Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau and Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area will host Songwriting Women of the Shoals. This free event will take place at 2 p.m. on March 25, 2017, in the Visitors Center Gallery.
“We are excited about the new partnership, which helps tourism to 
bring in speakers and performers, will increase opportunities for people in our community to learn about our music history, Native American heritage, and the role of the Tennessee River in shaping the region’s past, present, and future,” said Carolyn Barske, Interim Director of Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area.
This event, organized by Andreas Werner, Muscle Shoals Musicologist; will feature local artists Stephanie C. Brown, Angela Hacker and Rachel Wammack. The artists will hold an interview session prior to each performance.
Alison Stanfield
“We are honored to host such a talented and diverse group of women. Our rich music heritage is such an important part of the history of the Shoals,” said Alison Stanfield, Florence/Lauderdale Tourism Director of Operations. “These song writing women help to preserve our story and keep the music alive for all to enjoy.”
Stephanie C. Brown’s songs have been recorded by Garth Brooks, Darryl & Don Ellis and Georgia Middleman. “Burning Bridges”, a song she co-wrote with Garth Brooks was on Brooks’ Ropin’ the Wind album that reached the #1 spot on both the pop and country charts.
Born into a musical family, Angela Hacker’s songs have been recorded by Candi Staton, Jason Isbell, John Paul White and James LeBlanc. She was also the Season 5 winner of singing competition Nashville Star and has performed on the Grand Ole Opry.
Rachel Wammack majored in professional writing at UNA and has been writing and performing original songs for several years. She just signed a publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group Nashville.
