ATHENS– The 26th Annual Athens State University Alumni Golf Classic, presented by Athens Creekside Drugs, is scheduled for Thursday, May 18 at Canebrake Club in Athens. All proceeds from the tournament fund scholarships for the following academic year. The eight scholarship recipients for 2016-2017 will be volunteering at the tournament. Lunch, provided by Food Fite, and check-in start at 10:00 AM, and the tournament will begin at 11:30 AM.

“The Golf Classic was started by J.J. and Dottie Donahue when they saw a need to increase the scholarships offered by

the University,” stated Trish DiLullo, Director of Alumni Affairs and Annual Giving. “The tournament has grown from $6,000 in proceeds to more than $22,000 in 2016 and helps more students every year.”

Scholarship funds are raised through sponsorships, team entries, and donations. A hole sponsorship with a foursome team is available for $2,000 or without a foursome for $1,200. Individual and four-person team entries are $200 and $800, respectively.

Players receive a $50 Canebrake Pro Shop gift certificate (valid only on the day of tournament), the use of a shared golf cart, lunch, dinner, green fees, course refreshments, two mulligans/one power drive, and hospitality gifts. Dinner will be provided by Old Greenbrier Restaurant.

“Upon completion of my education, I hope I can give back to this community in appreciation of the many ways this community has given to me,” said Marshall, 2016-2017 scholarship recipient.
