Barbara Moomaw Borden – Obituary

Barbara Moomaw Borden was born May 13, 1932.  She died Monday, March 13, 2017 at the age of 84 after an extended illness.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Douglas Moomaw and her mother Reba Phillips Moomaw.

 

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edward Borden, her son Steve Borden (Dianne), her son Jeff Borden (Debbie), her daughter Becky King (Keith), her sister Betty Waynick, and her brother J. D. Moomaw (Karen).  Barbara is also survived by four grandchildren; Ashley Zimnowski (Leonard), Kelly Owens (Eric), Julie King and Alex King.  She also leaves four great grandchildren; Olivia, Ila and Evelyn Zimnowski and Elizabeth Owens. In addition, Barbara leaves 8 step-great-grandchildren, Madilyn Wilbanks, Adam and William Sherrill, Liam Sparks, Sean, Yash, Seth, and Silas Mehrotra.

After graduating from Central High School in 1950, Barbara attended Larimore Business School.  In 1952, she married Edward and moved with him to Tupelo, Mississippi where they lived for two years.  After returning to Florence, Barbara worked for over forty years as inspector, quality control manager, sewing room manager and plant manager in local sewing plants including Sweetwater, Flagg Utica, Genesco, Florence Sportswear, LynnD’s, and Center Star Knits.  Barbara spent many hours gardening and cooking. She enjoyed watching her children play sports and taking her grandchildren swimming in the creek.  She was known in the Cloverdale community for her fried apple pies.

The family would like to thank the staff of Station 5 at Mitchell Hollingsworth for the care Barbara received.  A special recognition and gratitude is extended to regular sitters Ann Shultz, Lillian Cooper, Rosalind Howard, Shelia Ricks and Myrdice Andrews for their loving care.  Many other sitters helped occasionally and our family is grateful for all who gave their time.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Officiating will be Donnie McDaniel.  Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Park.

 

Pallbearers will be: Alex King, Leonard Zimnowski, Eric Owens, Doug Moomaw, Lacy Waynick, Jr., and Greg Harrison.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Resident Services, attention Jerolyn Herron, at Mitchell Hollingsworth 805 Flagg Circle Florence, Alabama 35630 or to the Alzheimer’s association at alz.org.
