Edna Lee Carter – Obituary

Edna Lee Carter was reunited with her beloved husband, mother, brothers and sister on Saturday March 11, 2017. She was born in Decatur on Dec. 23, 1924 to David Lee and Mamie Portwood Lee. She was a devout Christian whose passion was service to others. She loved writing poetry and was a staunch Democrat. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Carter; brothers, Dalton Frank Lee and Thomas O. Lee and her sister, Glyn Lee.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her children, David Story, Claud “Eddie” Story (Debra), Barbara T. Lawrence (David) and Susan Terry and her stepchildren, Fred Walton Carter (Brenda), Larry Carter (Anita), Marilyn Thompson and Kay Hargrave. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Todd Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family expresses their gratitude to River City Nursing Home and Southern Care Hospice, with special thanks to Angela Pitman, for their care of our mother and to all the friends who have visited and brought food, gifts and cards during the past year, especially Hal, Beth and Renee Williams.

Pallbearers will be Alex Story, David Story, David Lawrence, Danny Lawson, Ian Clark and Brad Lawrence. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Sherrill, Hal Cochran, Richard Bays and Ussery Harris and the Parkview Baptist Church Deacons.
